“No one person can shape the life of another. Your success and happiness depend upon your own self. Think for yourself and have a plan of life”.

The above quote for the life for each individual which has deep meaning that without you and your ability no one can make you a person for life. This quote was stated by one of the most renowned personality in Indian History and known for his works which were recognized not only in India but he has astonished every individual in the world through his work in the field of engineering throughout his life and he is also called has “The Father of Indian Engineering” Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya fondly known as Sir MV.

Let us go through his life who lived by the phrase “Work is Worship”.

On the date 15 September 1861 in the small village muddenahalli in Karnataka a baby boy child was born to a renowned Sanskrit scholar Mokshagundam srinivasa and Venkatalakshmamma. Every year 15 September is not just a common date for not only one country but 3 countries, India, Srilanka and Tanzania who celebrate Engineer’s Day in his memory and recently famous search engine Google honored as Indian engineering Legend Sir MV on this occasion by creating a google doodle.

At the age of 12 his father passed away and he would take tutors to students to pay his school fees. And he would walk daily around 60 kilometers to reach his school and he studied under the lamps on the streets.He would know very well that education is the only thing which can support him to lead good life. With the motivation quotes “where there is a will there is a way”, and he moved to college of engineering Pune and received Licensee to practice civil engineering.

After his engineering he worked as an Assistant Engineer in PWD Bombay and then he was recognized and called in department of Indian Irrigation commission. And after his works went on very successful, he was recognized by Indian government and the government sent him to the Aden for studying water supply engineering. His project in his studied was so successful and after coming back to India he designed a very integrated and advance level canal system for flood protection in Hyderabad city at this stage he received a celebrity status.

He was instrumental in building the Automatic weir gates at khadakvasla Reservoir Pune, Tigra Dam in Gwalior and world-famous KRS dam. Biggest reservoir in Asia at his time was also headed by him at Visakhapatnam port. His works were not only popular in India nut he worked in the British service and served in the countries as a supreident engineer in Canada, United States, Russia and other western countries. After coming back to India, he retired from all the jobs to serve for the nation and worked for the nizams and then he took charge as Chief Engineer and Secretary and then Dewan of Mysore.

He is also known as “Father of Modern Mysore” because, During his work he was responsible for founding of Mysore Soap Factory, Mysore Iron and steel works, polytechnic college in Bangalore, Bangalore Agricultural university, State bank of Mysore, Century club, Federation of commerce and industry in Karnataka, University Visvesvaraya college of engineering in Bangalore and many other university and industries where gifted to the country by him and due to love towards his kannada language he established kannada parishat for upliftment of kannada language and he is also known for developing plan for the road construction between Tirumala and Tirupati which was impossible to everyone at his time and key instrumental work was, he designed Asia largest plan At that time for entire planned area of Jayanagar in south Bangalore.

For his notable works he was awarded nation’s highest honor Bharat Ratna in 1955 and he was knighted as a knight commander of Order of Indian Empire by British for public good and honor’s from London Institution and Indian Institutes and several other 8 universities and recognized in many fields and notably in education and engineering field and his statues are erected in almost all engineering universities and many institution are named after his name.

“When sincerity, time management and dedicationbecome the priority of our life then no one can control us to do the work we love” till his last breath at the age of 101 he was passionate and is a role model to all the youths and constant source of inspiration to emerging engineers.
